Hong Kong Arts Centre

Description

Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is a self-funding organization whose mission is to promote contemporary arts and culture within Hong Kong and beyond. The Centre provides a wide range of programmes featuring local and overseas artists, with facilities including theatres, a cinema, galleries, classrooms, studios, a café and office space. As a nonprofit body, HKAC relies heavily on donations, rental income, art course fees and box office income. Hong Kong Arts Centre is committed to nurturing creativity, arts and cultural engagement through its two-pronged approach; promoting contemporary performing arts, visual arts, film and video arts and providing lifelong and wide-reaching arts education. Home to artists' creative exploration, the Centre has featured numerous programmes in the presentation of various art forms, including film and video programmes, visual arts and performing arts programmes.

It also presents conferences, seminars, art festivals and public art projects all through the year. Its education arm, the Hong Kong Art School, established in 2000, is an accredited institute run by a group of dedicated artists. The focus of its award bearing curriculum lies in four core academic areas, namely, Fine Art, Applied Art, Media Art, and Drama Education, and its scope covers all academic levels ranging from Foundation Diploma to Higher Diploma, Bachelor Degree to Master Degree. The short courses and outreach projects of the School that run parallel to the award bearing curriculum span an even wider variety of artistic disciplines. With its recent acquisition of a campus site in Shau Kei Wan, the School aims at further bridging art and the community.
